Inside Scoop: Kaliq Lockett and 2025 WR recruiting dynamics, top 2026 RB to see Texas, a 2027 superstar to know
Inside Texas goes over the latest in 2025 wide receiver recruiting with how Kaliq Lockett’s recruitment could affect others, provides notes on a linebacker officially visiting Austin in June, details Javian Osborne’s relationship with Texas, and puts a 2027 name on the radar in the Inside Scoop.
Kaliq Lockett, WR, Sachse (Texas)
Texas and the On3 Industry Ranking five-star receiver continue to connect on a regular basis, including late last week when Lockett caught up with Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson. The Horns’ reason for calling was to find out if Lockett was open to potentially joining two other five-stars in the same cycle.
Lockett assured the staff he’s not afraid of competition and would welcome the opportunity to compete with the likes of Dakorien Moore and Jaime Ffrench.
The number at wide receiver remains four, but if Texas nabs Moore, Ffrench, and Lockett, don’t be surprised if that makes up the 2025 haul.
Marcus Harris, Kelshaun Johnson, Andrew Marsh, and Daylan McCutcheon remain on the radar, but spots might start filling up soon.
Lockett is ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect, the No. 2 wide receiver, and the No. 5 player in Texas in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking.
Landon McComber, LB, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman
McComber, an On3 Industry Ranking three-star from the Las Vegas powerhouse, continues to build a relationship with Texas co-DC Johnny Nansen. He’s excited to see Austin for his June 14-16 official visit and meet with Steve Sarkisian and the rest of the staff. Offered by Texas on April 5, Nansen has remained the main point of contact and is the one working to get McComber to Texas. Their discussions include scheme fit and what life as a Longhorn is like.
McComber’s trip to Texas is one of five official visits. He was just at UCLA this past weekend and will visit Stanford on May 31. After that is Utah on June 7, then Texas, then he’ll finish with USC on June 21.
McComber is ranked as the No. 447 overall prospect, the No. 46 linebacker, and the No. 6 player in Nevada in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking.
Daylan McCutcheon, WR, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy
McCutcheon told IT he still plans to take his official visit to Texas on June 14-16. Also scheduled to be in Austin that weekend are Andrew Marsh and Kelshaun Johnson.
Harris, Lockett, Moore, and Ffrench will be in Texas the following weekend on June 21-23.
McCutcheon also told IT on Sunday he maintains contact with the Texas staff, specifically Chris Jackson.
McCutcheon is ranked as the No. 110 overall prospect, the No. 13 wide receiver, and the No. 21 player in Texas in the On3 Industry Ranking.
Javian Osborne, RB, Forney (Texas) – 2026
On3’s No. 1 tailback in 2026 took an unofficial to Oregon over the weekend and absolutely loved it. That’s no surprise since most recruits love Oregon’s campus and facilities, plus the Nike vibe.
Osborne is looking at a return to Austin on June 1st for UT’s Elite camp. He stays in constant contact with Tashard Choice and the Horns staff. He took an unofficial to Texas in April catching a football practice. Osborne is one of four highly-ranked running backs in Texas in the 2026 class along with Texas commit Raycine Guillory, Tradarian Ball, and KJ Edwards. All four players have offers from the Longhorns.
As a sophomore, Osborne rushed for 2,154 yards and 37 touchdowns. He added two more receiving scores.
Jaylan Pile, WR, Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal School – 2026
Pile told IT he talks regularly with Chris Jackson and that their relationship continues to grow. Jackson saw Pile twice this spring, once at Parish Episcopal and when Pile visited Texas for a spring practice. Pile plans to return to Austin for a visit.
Trenton Yancey, ATH, Arlington (Texas) Lamar – 2027
A 2027 worth knowing about. For the Vikings in 2023, Yancey had 30 carries for 191 yards but did most of his work in the receiving game. He notched 60 receptions for 816 yards and three touchdowns, including a 99 yard reception.
At a clinic put on by Margin Hooks on Sunday, Yancey was making plays members of the 2025 class typically make. He currently has 19 offers including power conference scholarships from Arizona State, Baylor, Arkansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Washington, Wisconsin, and Texas.
He’s one to keep an eye on going forward. Here are his highlights.
