A new Who's the Boss? isn't on its way to TV screens after all, at least not in the way that was expected.Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that a revival of the sitcom, which originally aired for eight seasons, from 1984 to 1992, will not be moving forward at Amazon Freevee. The news comes nearly two years after star Alyssa Milano announced that a script had been given to the streamer.

"We actually submitted a script last week to FreeVee, which is the network that picked up, and we're waiting to hear if we're greenlit to go to series." Milano said. "So, we are very close."The Charmed star said then that she was "very excited about the potential for the sequel."EW has reached out to Amazon Freevee and to reps for Milano and Danza.

Who's the Boss? is the story of former pro baseball player Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) working as a housekeeper for career woman Angela Bower (Judith Light). He moves into her home, bringing his daughter Samantha (Milano), to live with Angela, Angela's son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro), and her mother, Mona, played by the late Katherine Helmond. Much was made of Tony and Angela's will-they-or-won't-they relationship, but some of the storylines also came from the kids, such as when Sam really wanted to see the Beastie Boys in concert or when she drank alcohol underage. As EW previously reported, the new series would have followed Tony and single mother Sam 30 years after audiences last saw them.

Milano, who appeared on the show before she was even a teenager, demonstrated just last month that she and Danza remain close, as she posted snapshots of them together at his Sinatra and Stories show at the Carlyle Cafe in New York City. She referred to him as "my forever TV Dad."In his own post, Danza called Milano his "forever tv daughter," and he promised to see her play Roxie Hart in Chicago in Broadway. On Wednesday, she noted that he had attended a show and was "the loudest and first to laugh."Sign up for Entertainment Weekly's free daily newsletter to get breaking TV news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more.
