Glen Rock Police Break Up Theft Ring That Targeted Bottle King

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Following a year long investigation, Glen Rock detectives took a woman into custody on April 30 whom they say was part of a theft ring that targeted the local Bottle King liquor store.On that day, police responded to the Rockland County, NY County Correctional Facility to take into custody Shatoya L. Smith, 26, of Newburgh. She had already been apprehended by officers from the Clarkstown, NY Police Department on April 21, police say, and was held as afugitive during extradition proceedings.The Glen Rock police said, "Smith is one of several actors involved in an organized retail theft gang which targeted Bottle King Liquors on Prospect Street during 2023, resulting in charges on two counts of shoplifting and one count of criminal conspiracy."For example, a year ago, in April 2023, suspects headed into the store for a "grab and run" shoplifting, and left with $70 in goods.
