We turned up at airport for dream holiday… only to realise our horrifying mistake
A CONFUSED holidaymaker and his sister had a horrible surprise when they arrived at London Gatwick ahead of their trip to Barcelona.
The pair were puzzled when they couldn’t check in online for their evening flight on June 29, until they realised their huge mistake.

Rafael Karoulla, 28, and his sister, Maggie, 30, turned up at the airport and only then realised that something was wrong.
After desperately checking their tickets, they realised their mistake.
They had booked their Easyjet flights for 2026 instead of 2025.
Luckily the siblings saw the funny side and managed to re-book flights for this year – so they could still fly out to Spain for their trip.
Rafael from Manchester, said: “I was really confident it was 2025.
“You wouldn’t think you could book for a year ahead.
“Once we got to London we had five hours to spend.
“We tried to do it online [check-in].
“We realised we’d booked for 2026.
“I started laughing.”
Rafael and Maggie – a flight attendant herself – had spent three weeks travelling around Thailand before heading back to Europe.
The pair stopped off in Rome, Italy, on the way home.
They had planned to end their holiday spending time in Barcelona together, where Maggie lived, for a few days.
They pair had a stop over flight – flying from Italy to London before then jetting to Spain.
But when they arrived in London and went to check in they realised they couldn’t board the plane because the date on their ticket was 2026.
Rafael had been booking multiple flights at the same time for their trip when he made the mistake – but hadn’t spotted his error on the email confirmation.
Luckily, Maggie saw the funny side in his hilarious mistake.
He said: “I was booking so many flights I didn’t check that much.
“She was a bit p****d at me.
“But she was laughing at the same time.
“We were shocked.”
The pair had paid around £100 each for their flights but managed to secure seats on the same flight that day for £70 each.
Rafael said: “We still have another ticket for next year – but we probably won’t use it.”
He says that he is now a lot more careful when he booking flights.
Rafael added: “I didn’t think it was possible to book a year early.”
