Miami-Dade Partners with Friends of Miami Animals to Launch Free 'Wellness on Wheels' Mobile Vet Clinic in Underserved Areas
In a move to provide much-needed veterinary care to pets in less serviced areas, Miami-Dade Animal Services has partnered with the Friends of Miami Animals Foundation to launch the Wellness on Wheels (WOW) initiative. This free mobile clinic is hitting the road to bring routine medical services directly into communities identified with limited access to veterinary resources. According to an announcement from Miami-Dade County, this outreach effort aims to address the healthcare needs of owned dogs and cats within these areas.
The mobile clinic comes fully equipped to handle an array of services, participating in the front-line work of pet care by offering wellness vaccines, deworming, flea prevention, and referrals for spay/neuter surgeries. "The veterinarians and technicians will also refer clients to low or no-cost options for spay/neuter surgeries not offered by the WOW mobile clinic." However, for those looking to snag a spot for their pet, take note: the clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis and currently does not accept appointments or litters, as mentioned by Miami-Dade County.
Until September 25, pet owners can find the WOW mobile unit stationed with care at the JFK Public Library in Hialeah, providing a convenient local spot for residents to drop in. The clinic runs Monday through Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a break at noon.
