Texas’ Steve Sarkisian gives encouraging Quinn Ewers injury update ahead of Red River Rivalry

This Saturday, Oklahoma and Texas football will pen a new, exciting chapter in their fabled Red River Rivalry. The longtime Big 12 foes will square off as SEC members for the first time ever, as the No. 1 Longhorns visit the No. 18 Sooners at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The question is, though, who will be taking snaps under center for the road team? The latest Quinn Ewers injury update seems to offer plenty of clarity.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian says that if the game were to be contested on this day, the star junior quarterback would be the starter, according to Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com. While most fans have been anticipating Ewers’ return to come in Norman, it is still deeply encouraging to hear Sarkisian vocalize that optimism five days before the big game.
The team will continue to monitor Ewers’ status, but he is definitely trending towards resuming his duties as the Longhorns’ QB1. The 21-year-old suffered an abdominal strain against UTSA and has missed the last two games. He practiced during the squad’s bye week and on Monday, putting himself in line to take the field again just in time for a challenging stretch of conference matchups.
Texas trusts Quinn Ewers to lead it to a national title
Backup quarterback and fellow five-star recruit Arch Manning is obviously a prolific headline-stealer, but the consensus within and around the program has been that Quinn Ewers is the top guy for the 2024-25 Texas football Longhorns. The freshman has flashed enough talent and potential in his temporary tenure as starting signal-caller to provide Austin with a profusion of enthusiasm for the future.
Fans are not ready to move on from this highly promising campaign, however. And neither is Ewers. He will look to leave no doubt about his health as the week progresses and definitively remind people that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
