The DawgsHQ Inside: 3 storylines to follow for a massive Georgia OV weekend
If you’ve been asleep for the last month or so, we are here to inform you that the Georgia Bulldogs have an absolutely loaded group of prospects visiting this weekend. With that, there will be plenty to watch for.
What are we monitoring most closely?
The Most Important Visitor This Weekend for Georgia
This will probably be a harder decision in the coming weeks, but we’d be kidding you not to pick Justus Terry as the top prospect for the Dawgs to impress this weekend. Yes, Isaiah Gibson is MASSIVELY important, as well, and the EDGE spot is always crucial to recruit well, but Terry is among the best defensive linemen the Peach State has produced in some time. Those guys are not a dime a dozen, no matter where you shop. Additionally, where Gibson had some eyebrow raising comments about the Bulldogs earlier this week, Terry has kept it much more even keel. He maintains it’s all love with Georgia, and that they still sit in the No. 2 spot but hasn’t been quite as emphatic about their standing with him as his fellow Southern Cal commit. There’s no denying it — keeping Terry in the Peach State needs to be priority 1 for the Bulldogs both this weekend and throughout the rest of this cycle. He is that talented and important. If there is a must flip in this class, he is the one. Let’s see how this weekend goes, with Georgia pulling out all the stops to show Terry why home is where the heart is.
Where the Dawgs Can Make Up the Most Ground
The Lagonza Hayward recruitment has been a bit of a head scratcher to this point. The Bulldogs waited for some time to offer him, came on heavily when they did, and then seemingly, fell behind the likes of Tennessee and Florida. Without a ton of in-state options at defensive back, that feels strange, especially considering they were a late addition to his official visit list. But if they do want him, now is the time to show him. Hayward had glowing things to say about the Dawgs upon being offered, but there’s work to be done if Travaris Robinson wants to keep him from two storied Georgia rivals. This weekend likely defines this recruitment. We’ll monitor it very closely for that reason.
A Key Commit on Campus
Everyone wants a piece of Elyiss Williams, and it’s not hard to see why when you watch him in action or read out the ridiculous measurables. Florida State and Miami have been bringing the heat for some time now, but Williams has been saying all of the right things when it comes to his standing with the Bulldogs. While there’s always going to be concern with a guy of this caliber and premier programs, getting the chance to bring him in for the first weekend and set the standard for his summer is a savvy move for the Bulldogs. Remind him why he chose you, encourage him to compare that with what else he’ll see, and reinforce he’s found his home already. With Todd Hartley on the case, there’s plenty to feel good about it when it comes to Williams.
