95th Phillips' Mill Art Show Brings Amazing Images To New Hope

NEW HOPE, PA — The 95th Phillips' Mill Juried Art Show - billed as the most prestigious show in the area - continues through October 27 showcasing more than 350 works created by the vibrant artistic community of Bucks County and the River Towns region.Nestled on River Road just north of New Hope, the exhibition is open daily from 1 to 5 p.m. and is the perfect destination for art-loving leaf peepers this autumn season. Presenting the works of more than 200 area artists, the show can also be viewed online at phillipsmill.org. Artists will be on hand to meet and greet guests, discuss their work, answer questions, and share the joy of the show. Check out the “Meet the Artists” schedule on the website to learn when your favorite artists will be in attendance.New this year, tote bags bearing the 95th anniversary show logo and signature image are available for purchase at the Mill for $24. Admission to the show is $6 for adults, $2 for students, free for Phillips’ Mill members and artists who submitted to the show.Twenty-two artists have been singled out with show honors, recognized for exceptional work including awards for a watercolor, an interior scene, a still life, an abstract, paintings in the style of the Pennsylvania Impressionists, landscapes, scenic bridges, African American history and culture, and five awards presented to sculptors. Among the 22 awards presented at the show were the Patrons’ Award for Painting won by Kate Wright of Ambler for her oil painting, Peter and the Wave; the Patrons’ Award for Drawing, Pastel or Printmaking which went to Scott MacNeill of Lambertville for his pencil drawing, ‘55 Chevy in the City (Lambertville, NJ); and the Patrons’ Award for Sculpture, presented to Susanne Pitak Davis, also of Lambertville, for her colorful papier maché, My Magic Pumpkin Ride.“‘55 Chevy in the City (Lambertville, NJ)," a pencil drawing by Scott MacNeill, won the Patrons’ Award for Drawing, Pastel or Printmaking. (Daniel Michael Sierchio Visual Artist) A special award this year was presented in memory of longtime Phillips’ Mill Community Association member, board member and volunteer Janet Hunt, who supported local artists for decades through her Lambertville gallery work and designed the Juried Art Show at Phillips’ Mill for over 30 years. The award was presented to Robin Crowley of Doylestown for her egg tempera portrait, Jill (b.1927).“We are excited to have increased the number of awards given out this year - totaling $13,000," said Art Committee Chair Dennis Riley. Both women spoke of their pride in being honored by the venerable Phillips’ Mill, the birthplace of Pennsylvania Impressionism, and being part of its history alongwith William Lathrop, Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, Fern Coppedge and their fellow artistfriends who founded the organization in 1929.Phillips’ Mill Community Association is located at 2619 River Road, just north of New Hope.
