‘Dancing With the Stars’ Not Renewed For Season 34 Yet, Cancelled Or?

Disney Boss Responds To Question About 'Dancing With the Stars' Not Yet Being Renewed For Season 34Although the curtain hasn’t officially been lifted on Season 34 of Dancing With the Stars, there’s no reason for fans to fret. A green light appears to be just around the corner.
Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, has dropped strong hints that the beloved ballroom competition will indeed return — and that an announcement is on the horizon.
Speaking to Variety, Erwich didn’t mince words about the show’s impact and future. “We’ll have news to share soon,” he said in the interview published April 3. He credited the show’s savvy expansion into platforms like TikTok for its growing reach, saying, “What the producers of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ did with TikTok this year has brought a whole new audience to the show.”
A Legacy Show That Keeps Reinventing Itself
Over the years, Dancing With the Stars has evolved from a traditional live TV spectacle into a cultural phenomenon that spans generations — and screens. Erwich emphasized how the show’s real-time excitement gives it a communal pull that keeps viewers engaged week after week.
“That kind of viewing experience of ‘it’s on tonight, and I want to watch it with my friends or my family,’” he explained. “From a business perspective, it’s the best marketing way to create awareness for those shows when they go on to Hulu.”
He also pointed to the synergy between ABC and Hulu as a driving force behind the show’s sustained popularity: “We have a very vibrant, very virtuous ecosystem of circulating word of mouth and engagement between ABC and Hulu. We’ve really figured it out. I actually think we’re the best at it.”
Record Ratings Make a Strong Case for Renewal
The numbers speak for themselves. Season 33 delivered not just consistent viewership but also a grand finale that outperformed expectations.
As Variety reported in December 2024, the finale pulled in a staggering 8 million viewers, making it ABC’s highest-rated entertainment telecast of the season.
Even more impressively, “The finale pulled off the largest multiplatform viewing for ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in both total viewers and adults 18-49 since the Season 30 premiere in 2021,” according to the outlet.
Fans Already Celebrating — Even Without an Official Word
While the network hasn’t formally announced Season 34, fans are already buzzing online, taking the unofficial news as good as confirmed. On Reddit, the reactions have been a blend of enthusiasm and pragmatism.
“Can’t say I’m surprised with how well the last two seasons went, but I’m hoping they have a bigger budget next season,” one fan noted.
“I mean last season had great ratings and they broke records with the voting, so this isn’t a surprise,” another commented.
A third fan added, “I mean this isn’t that shocking, season 33 had record breaking voting. The show isn’t going anywhere for a while especially when it would be more expensive to replace it with scripted shows.”
So while the official renewal announcement may still be pending, all signs — from the president’s remarks to fan reactions and skyrocketing ratings — suggest that Dancing With the Stars isn’t done twirling across America’s screens just yet.
