Halle Berry is speaking out over allegedly “shady” tactics used to try and get her to appear in X-Men: The Last Stand. On Sunday, Oct. 6, the actress, 58, acknowledged in an Instagram post allegations made by director Matthew Vaughan that 20th Century Fox studio sent her a fake script to persuade her to sign on for the 2006 X-Men sequel.“Ya just never know the shady s— going on behind ya back! Thank you Matthew Vaughn for bringing the dark to light 🕯️,” Berry wrote as she reshared a clip of Vaughan making his allegations. In the video, the British director explained during a panel that he quit as director of the X-Men sequel in partial to the alleged tactics on Berry he uncovered from the studio. “This is a true story: Hollywood is really political and uninvolved,” he said. “I went into one of the executive’s offices and I saw an X-Men 3 script and I immediately knew it was a lot fatter. I was like, ‘What the hell is this draft? They were like, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ ”

Vaughan claimed that he read the script, which included a plotline heavily centered on Berry’s character in the movie, Storm. “I was like, ‘Oh this is a pretty, cool idea. What is this? They said, ‘Oh, it's the Halle Berry script. Because she hasn’t signed up yet. But this is what she wants it to be and once she signs up we’ll throw it in the bin,’ ” he alleged. “And I was like, ‘Wow, you’re going to do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I’m out of here.’ So I quit at that point,” recalled Vaughan. Berry ended up starring in X-Men: The Last Stand as Storm, having played the iconic superhero character in the first comics-to-movie adaptation and sequels that ran up to 2014. Though Vaughn didn't end up directing X-Men: The Last Stand (he was replaced by Brett Ratner), he did return to the franchise to direct 2011's X-Men: First Class. The actress appeared in the films opposite Hugh Jackman who played Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, James Marsden as Cyclops, Anna Paquin as Rogue, and more.
