Circuit Judge Sam Junkin imposed the consecutive life sentences as part of a plea agreement.“This is a significant step towards justice for Ms. Williams and her loved ones, achieved without the trauma of a jury trial,” Hamlin said. “My sincere hope is that he spends the rest of his life behind bars.”Maronda Williams was found dead in her home on Alabama Highway 18 East on Jan. 21, 2020, two days after the attack. Investigators found evidence of an assault, including two bloody knives disposed of in a trash can outside of her home. Travis Williams had recently been released from prison after a previous conviction in Tuscaloosa County when he visited his ex-wife on Jan. 19, 2020, seeking a loan. Hamlin said an argument ensued when she offered him $200 instead of the $250 he had requested, leading to a violent confrontation.Following the attack, investigators found evidence that revealed Travis Williams had attempted to stage the scene to resemble a burglary, breaking a window and rearranging items in the home. He also disposed of Maronda Williams’ phone, wallet and shoes in a gas station trash can on his way back to Tuscaloosa.“Travis Williams has a long history of violence, and our community is safer with him behind bars,” Hamlin said. “This case underscores the importance of supporting victims of domestic violence and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.”Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
