The entrance to Cannes Film Festival’s Palais was shut down temporarily following a bomb scare.
On Saturday afternoon (May 18), festival staff discovered a ‘suspicious item.’
Consequently, the street outside the Palais was closed off, as police officers prevented pedestrians from crossing in either direction.
The unclaimed rucksack was then inspected in the middle of the crosswalk by a group of specialised officers.
Neither the Palais nor the surrounding area was evacuated.
However, the surrounding area of the Palais was restricted and members of the public were unable to queue directly in front of the building.

Those who were already queuing were allowed to remain next to a police post.
Additionally, the press terrace facing towards the Croisette was closed.
Once officers completed their investigation and were satisfied the area was safe, both the street and the Palais entrance were reopened at 3:10pm.
Security remains high at Cannes, with a new detector gate installed which attendees must walk through individually.
As a result, entrance to the venue has slowed down, with many queueing upwards of 20 minutes.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival has seen A-listers flock to celebrate their latest projects, including the likes of Emma Stone, Barry Keoghan, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star Anya Taylor-Joy.

Stone reunited with The Favourite co-star Joe Alwyn for the premiere of Kinds Of Kindness, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
The premiere also marked a reunion for the cast of Lanthimos’ Poor Things, which won numerous awards this year including the Golden Globe for best motion picture.
Stone, who won the Oscar for best actress for her role as Bella Baxter, was reunited with US star Willem Dafoe, who played Dr Godwin Baxter in the film alongside Qualley, who played Felicity.
The film will be released in the UK on June 28.
Meanwhile, Irish actor Keoghan premiered his new film Bird, written and directed by Andrea Arnold.

The Bafta-winning star plays single father Bug, who lives in a squat in north Kent and he spoke about how there are ‘a lot of similarities’ between the working class in Dublin and the characters portrayed in the movie.
Keoghan, 31, grew up in a working-class area of inner-city Dublin and, as a child, he was placed in a dozen foster homes along with his brother.
His mother died when he was around 12 years old, at which point he was living with his grandmother.
In true Cannes fashion, there have been plenty of standing ovations too.
One of which was for US film director Francis Ford Coppola, who received a lengthy standing ovation after the world premiere of his sci-fi epic Megalopolis.
It comes as the film divides critics, with cast member Giancarlo Esposito defending the risk-taking flick, admitting that he struggled to understand everything about it himself.

Known for her versatility in countless roles over the years, Streep was in Cannes to receive the prestigious Palme d’Or award, celebrating her outstanding contributions to cinema over more than five decades.
