Akasa Air Gets DGCA Show-Cause Notice Over Regulatory Violations
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to Akasa Airlines. The show-cause notice was issued over several regulatory breaches identified by the civil aviation body during a recent review. The airline has been asked to provide an explaination in seven days."The violations pertain to non-compliance with Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) 7/I/VII, CAR 7/I/I, and Rule 140C of The Aircraft Rules 1937," the DGCA said in a statement."The DGCA's spot audit and scrutiny revealed that practical training sessions conducted by Akasa Airlines were completed and simulated without the mandated requisite regulatory approvals raising significant concerns regarding the adequacy of training standards and operational readiness," the civil aviation body further stated."Akasa Airlines has been asked to provide an explanation for the lapses within a period of seven days. The DGCA remains committed to upholding the highest safety and operational standards in the aviation industry and will take all necessary action to enforce regulatory compliance," it added.Akasa Air's Response:Akasa Airlines said that it will respond to the show-cause notice as per protocol. "Akasa Air is in receipt of a notice from the DGCA in relation to an audit conducted in May 2024 and we will submit a response as per protocol. Safety is of utmost importance, and we continuously strive to pursue the highest standards of safety," the airline spokesperson said.Earlier in the day, the aviation regulator also took action against Air India Express and SpiceJet. The DGCA imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on Air India Express for non-payment of compensation to passengers for cancelled flights. The DGCA carried out an inspection as per Annual Surveillance Programme (ASP) 2024 of scheduled domestic operators in June. This was in respect of norms pertaining to facilities and compensation that are to be provided to passengers.The aviation regulator also decided to place SpiceJet under enhanced surveillance. The decision was taken amid reports of financial crunch and the cancellation of flights by SpiceJet.
