MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The following is the most recent Manhattan Beach Police Department crime summary.From May 2 to 8 there were:768 calls for service13 arrests18 traffic collisions48 crime reports takenNotable Incidents:On May 2 two suspects approached a victim and grabbed their cell phone from their hands before fleeing in a Range Rover. Police reviewed security footage of the incident and picked up the suspect vehicle's license plate. The Hawthorne Police Department found the suspects hours later. Investigation results connected the same suspects to a robbery in Downey, so Downey police drove to Hawthorne to take the suspects into custody.On May 4, MBPD responded to a report of a group of teens fighting. When officers arrived, three victims told the police that they were confronted by a group of 10 other teens they didn't know. One of the victims was punched in the face while another had their necklace stolen. The teens also told police their e-bike battery was stolen. The group of 10 fled the scene and the victims' parents were notified and brought their children home.On May 5 police responded to a report of somebody "disturbing the peace" in the area of 6th Place and Crest Drive. Police said they located the suspect on a bicycle and he attempted to evade police by driving into a Vons. While in the supermarket, a shopper recognized that the bike the suspect was on actually belonged to them.
