Bessent testifies before House on international financial systems

By The Hill Staff
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is testifying Wednesday before the House Financial Services Committee on the state of international financial systems.
Bessent has criticized operations at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in recent weeks, claiming the institutions have “fallen short” of their mission, and called for reform. The scrutiny comes as the Trump administration looks to reassure investors that the U.S. is still a leader in the global market, despite economic uncertainty after President Trump’s latest tariff rollout and his trade war, particularly with China.
The White House and Treasury Department have signaled a deal could be on the horizon.
