Watch For Police Scam Targeting Galloway Residents
GALLOWAY, NJ — Galloway police are warning residents of a new phone scam where the caller pretends to be an officer.On Friday, police shared that they received several reports that day from residents, who said they were contacted by an individual claiming to be a Galloway Township Police Department detective."During this conversation, the individual identified themselves as Detective Giberson and requested the victim's social security number," police said.Galloway police said they do not contact residents and ask for a Social Security number."If you are contacted by an individual claiming to be a police officer from Galloway, and would like to confirm their identify, please hang up and call us at 609-653-3705 extension 1," police said.Police urge residents to spread the word about this scam and hopefully prevent others from being victimized."If you provided your social security number to an individual and feel it may have been a scam, please contact The Galloway Township Police Department immediately to file a report and receive guidance on the next steps to take," police said.The article Watch For Police Scam Targeting Galloway Residents appeared first on Galloway, NJ Patch.
