Indianapolis Warned of Sizzling Heat Wave with Severe Storm Risk, NWS Urges Caution
The city braces for another scorcher today with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis warning residents of heat index values potentially hitting the high 90s to near 100 degrees. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, find refuge in air-conditioned spaces, avoid overexposure to the sun, and check in on those who may be vulnerable to the heat, according to the NWS forecast.
On top of the oppressive heat, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are on the docket for this afternoon and evening, which may bring about isolated strong to marginally severe storm conditions, and while an official Spotter activation isn't expected right now the NWS has prepped the locals on the expected developments highlighting that "Hot and humid conditions will persist today" and that "lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rain are possible with any storm," featuring in a hazardous weather outlook.
Moving beyond today, Saturday's forecast predicts a likelihood of showers and possibly a storm continuing into the early part of the weekend with a 70 percent chance of precipitation before 2pm; temperatures are expected to dip slightly, resulting in a more comfortable high of around 82 degrees.
As Labor Day weekend continues, the weather is expected to improve. By Sunday, skies are set to clear, bringing sunnier conditions and a high around 86 degrees. Those planning to extend their outdoor activities into holiday Monday can look forward to more sunshine and milder temperatures, with a high near 78 degrees, offering relief from the previous days' heat.
