Metuchen’s Kahn’s Crossing Pedestrian Bridge Now Ready For Use
METUCHEN, NJ — The Borough recently celebrated the official opening of the Kahn’s Crossing Pedestrian Bridge, which is now ready for use. The bridge was shut down for safety reasons in early 2018. Engineers found rusting and deterioration during an inspection. The bridge connects Graham Avenue across the Greenway trail gap. A historically significant neighborhood, Graham Avenue attracts many pedestrians. The State’s Transportation Trust Fund gave Metuchen funding of $308,500 to repair the bridge. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held a few days ago. “We were fortunate to be joined by two of Donald Kahn’s grandchildren, who helped us honor the legacy of their late grandfather as we paid tribute to his original vision for the bridge,” Metuchen Mayor Jonathan M Busch said in a Facebook post. “Thanks to a critical grant from the State’s Transportation Trust Fund in 2021, this essential infrastructure repair is now a reality. The improved connectivity of our community means that residents can safely traverse Graham Avenue once again.” Busch thanked residents of the Graham neighborhood for their “patience and support throughout this process.” Have a correction or news tip?
