In-state offensive tackle Sam Greer talks Ohio State and his desire to prove people wrong this season
AKRON — Four-star Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban offensive tackle Sam Greer is an On 300 prospect in the 2026 class and he holds scholarship offers from some of the top programs in college football including Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon and dozens of others.
After only being able to play in a handful of games his first two seasons of high school football because of injury, Greer is not thinking about the accolades and offers. He is just out to prove to people that he is deserving of everything that he has earned so far in his recruitment.
“I definitely feel like that, [I] definitely feel like people think I don’t deserve these offers,” Greer told Lettermen Row. “That I don’t deserve a lot of stuff but I’m here to prove this year that I deserve all this and more. I’m really trying to impress everybody.”
As for how he plans to prove people wrong, Greer has been putting in the hours in the Hoban weight room and on the field.
“Just a lot of work. I know I gotta get a lot better, faster, stronger and just more agile so that’s where I’m at. Just getting extra reps and training.”
One person that Greer is working to prove right is Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye who was the first college coach to offer him over a year ago. Frye was at Hoban last Thursday for the Knights’ college showcase and he is still building a relationship with the 6-foot-8 and 290-pound Greer.
“It’s going well. I love seeing coach Frye.”
Frye is not the only person in Greer’s ear about Ohio State either. Ohio State linebacker commit Eli Lee is Greer’s high school teammate at Hoban and he talks to Greer daily about the Buckeyes, even during the school day.
“Every day [in] math class.”
Greer has also been a frequent visitor in Columbus throughout his recruitment including multiple spring practice visits in the past few months.
“Yeah, I watched one, maybe two spring practices. I know I was at least one.”
Greer is the No. 166 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class and the No. 11 offensive tackle prospect, according to On3. He is also a standout basketball player who helped lead Hoban to an OHSAA Division I state title as a freshman in 2023.
