Elite 11 coaches rave about Deuce Knight’s MVP performance
George County (Miss.) quarterback Deuce Knight has been on the peripheral of elite standing with the nation’s top signal callers for the last year. The word has always been “yeah the combine numbers are great but can he spin it with the best of ’em”. The doubts were erased this week as the four-star prospect took home MVP honors at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles.
The 6-foot-5, 208 pound recruit impressed On3’s Charles Power with his consistency, saying it’s “the best we’ve seen” of him.
“Deuce Knight gets the nod in a very tight four man race for the On3 MVP after turning in a consistent three days of performances with the most legitimate ‘wow’ moments of any Elite 11 finalist. He showcased his physical upside and high-end arm talent on Day 1 and was the On3 MVP on Day 2 with the best pro day of the group,” Power said. “There were several eye-raising moments from his workout on Day 2 that were among the top highlights from the week.
“Knight backed that up with a good showing during Thursday’s 7-on-7 portion. His arm talent was among the best on hand and he was able to operate well within the structure of this camp setting,” Power said. “We were also impressed with Knight’s movement skills over the course of the week. The speed and depth of his drops were among the best on hand.”

On3 wasn’t the only one who was impressed. Several Elite 11 coaches were blown away as well.
The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman spoke with those in attendance who were in charge of coaching this year’s crop of elite quarterbacks. The reviews were, well, elite.
“He was super impressive,” former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner said. “He’s big and strong, and he moves really well…as polished as anybody there. And he’s got this personality that’s outstanding. He can walk into a room and will attract teammates no matter their walks of life. He can relate well to guys.”

“I think he’s special,” 12-year Elite 11 coach Justin Hoover said. “I don’t think Notre Dame’s ever had a quarterback quite like this. (Kizer) was big and threw it well, but he wasn’t as dynamic as this kid is.”
Speaking of Notre Dame, Knight is still firmly committed to the Irish. But, Ole Miss is still hanging around. He spoke with On3’s Mike Singer about his recruitment and where things stand.
“They’re trying to get me on an official, but I really don’t know yet. It might happen; it might not,” Knight said. “They truly believe that if coach (Lane) Kiffin got his hands on me, then we could create some of the best offense in the country and win a lot of games.”

Deuce Knight says all the right things as it pertains to his commitment.
“I feel like my commitment is great with Notre Dame,” Knight said. “I was just up there for my official visit, and it was really fun…got to hang out with a lot of the commits and coaches. It’s really good.
“Coach [Marcus] Freeman is telling me the same message — ‘Stay true. You know why you picked this place.’ I committed to Notre Dame for a reason, and that’s what he always tells me.”
But, again, the Rebels are not going away. Ole Miss hosts its big recruiting weekend, “Juice Fest”, at the end of July. The expectation is Kiffin will try to get Knight there. Ideally, he would be surrounded by the likes of Caleb Cunningham, Mario Nash, Akylin Dear, Winston Watkins Jr., Koby Howard and Tyler Miller. If Knight does in fact make the trip up the road to Oxford, Miss., it could go a long way in Kiffin’s pursuit of a flip.
Only time will tell.
