AMC Movie Theater Site In Mercer Co. Sold To Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

MERCER COUNTY, NJ - The former AMC movie theater property at Sloan Avenue in Hamilton was sold to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), local officials said. The acquisition marks a significant step toward bringing world-class pediatric healthcare services directly to central New Jersey families. CHOP plans to transform the site to better serve the region's healthcare needs. The hospital will use this location to expand access to specialized pediatric services. Hamilton Township and Mercer County officials are actively supporting CHOP throughout the redevelopment process. The collaboration includes developing comprehensive proposals for the property's future use, followed by detailed construction planning to ensure the project moves forward efficiently. “Hamilton Township is excited to welcome CHOP to town,” said Mayor Jeff Martin. “As a parent to a young child, I know the concern of every parent for their child’s health, and having CHOP here in our backyard ensures the children of Hamilton will always have easy access to the best possible medical care. It has been great to partner with Mercer County and CHOP to make this first step a reality, and I am looking forward to our continued partnership through the redevelopment process.” County Executive Dan Benson emphasized the regional impact of the project. “I was proud to work closely with Mayor Martin and with CHOP to turn an idea into reality and breathe new life into the old AMC site, while bringing good-paying jobs to our community and improving the health of our region's children," Benson said. CHOP CEO Madeline Bell highlighted the organization's commitment to accessible care, saying their core mission is to make pediatric care available as close to home as possible. “New Jersey's children are central to our overall mission, and we're excited about bringing enhanced care, expanded services, and greater convenience to Central New Jersey families and the broader region,” Bell said. “This acquisition reinforces our dedication to ensuring healthier futures for all children." The redevelopment timeline and specific services to be offered at the Hamilton location will be announced as planning progresses. Have a correction or news tip?
