Deadlines and Commitments - September morning edition
The day after Labor Day is the traditional day for NBA players to join their team at teams’ training camps for workouts and unsupervised scrimmages. It is September, the month before training camp and the time when players show up at HSS for workouts and scrimmages and final roster moves are made. The Brooklyn Nets made some news in that latter category this weekend with reports that they’re close to signing Yongxi “Jacky” Cui, a 6’8” Chinese shooting guard although there’s nothing official. Brooklyn also has one more two-way to fill as well as an Exhibit 10 camp invite. Expect to hear word on all those openings in the next couple of weeks if not sooner.
In the meantime...
—September 3: Tuesday after Labor Day. Traditional date for most NBA players to return to their base.

—October 22: Three-week window closes for Nets to extend Cam Thomas, Day’Ron Sharpe and Ziaire Williams beyond their rookie contracts. The next opportunity for an extension will come in July 2025, when all three will be restricted free agents and the Nets can match any offer. That scenario is the more likely one.
