Girl, 17, ‘sexually assaulted on platform before being raped in train toilet’ as man, 30, arrested
A MAN has been arrested after a teenage girl was “sexually assaulted” on a platform before being “raped in the train toilet”.
The 17-year-old girl was on a platform in South East London on July 19 when the horror unfolded.
She boarded a train towards Abbey Wood at around 6am before being raped in the train toilet, cops said.
The man left the station at Abbey Wood, while the girl continued to Slade Green railway station, where she reported the incident to the police.
A 30-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.
He was later released on bail whilst cops investigate the incident.
British Transport Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact the force on 101.
In a statement they said: “Officers investigating a sexual assault and rape in south east London are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“At around 6.05am on Saturday 19 July a 17-year-old girl was on the platform towards Abbey Wood at Woolwich Arsenal railway station when she was sexually assaulted by a man.
“They boarded a train towards Abbey Wood at around 6.09am. Soon afterwards she was raped in a carriage toilet.
“The man left the station at Abbey Wood, while the girl continued alone to Slade Green railway station and later reported the incident to police.
“On 24 July a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and taken into custody. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
“British Transport Police officers are investigating and are asking anyone who was at Woolwich Arsenal station and may have seen the pair on the platform, or the train, to contact police immediately.
