5-star Caleb Cunningham talks Ole Miss visit, his new leader and what’s next in his process
Ackerman (Miss.) Choctaw County O3 Industry five-star receiver Caleb Cunningham spent a couple days on the Ole Miss campus this week as the Rebels work to rise up the list of the state’s No. 1 recruit.
“We went on campus and just had a great time,” Cunningham told On3. “Just keep building that relationship with a couple coaches.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Cunningham says the Rebels will stay in the equation moving forward and highlighted some of the things that stood out.
“The offensive scheme and the guys they developed to get to the league,” Cunningham said. “The offensive coordinator (Charlie Weis Jr.) literally showed me how they can get guys to the NFL by the offensive scheme and plays. There were some great plays they were showing me. It showed me the little details.
“Ole Miss they always have receivers that go to the league.”
Cunningham doubles down on Auburn leading
Over the weekend Cunningham named Auburn his top school following his official visit on The Plains.
“It’s like a brotherhood there,” Cunningham said. “The whole staff they showed love. It’s a vibe up there. It’s just a great place to be.
“Getting to spend time with the players Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, Malcolm Simmons and Bryce Cain, they expressed they really want me to play with them. They’re some great guys and they have great people in that building. It’s just a great place to be.
“I love the culture. Great environment. Me and Coach (Marcus) Davis and Coach (Hugh) Freeze, Coach (Derrick) Nix, the assistant receivers coach Coach Heath Dedeaux, we have great relationships.
“It’s a great place. They keep it real with you.”
Cunningham’s travels continue
This weekend Cunningham returns to Florida for his official visit. The following weekend he has Tennessee and ends the month at Alabama.
As far as future unofficials go, Cunningham says he’ll either visit Auburn or Ole Miss on July 27.
He’ll also “most likely” get over to Mississippi State at some point.
Cunningham’s rating and stats
The On3 industry tabs Cunningham as the country’s No. 2 receiver and No. 15 prospect overall.
As a junior Cunningham had 48 catches for 1,138 yards and 14 touchdowns.
