Redditor @eld101 told the subreddit r/Costco about their surprise encounter.
This person explained that they had been a member for 10 years but had only returned one or two items in that time.
The shopper explained they had purchased a camera system from the store last April but only got around to using it at the start of this year.
Eld101 said they felt the picture quality was lagging and “unusable” after they installed six out of the eight cameras.
Despite the situation and the time since the item was purchased, the shopper discovered they could return the system.
“One of the girls at the return counter had a quick chat with who I assume was a supervisor and they said that they would,” the Redditor said.
“I asked again on a 2nd trip to confirm since it was going to be a project to get the ladder out to remove the cameras. Same answer.”
The Redditor said they were skeptical of the answer and returned to the store with the cameras and all the components for the return.
They recalled the two steps an employee told them to take for the return.
“”Can I see your membership card” and “Please swipe or tap the card you want the refund to,”” the shopper said.
They added that the employee also asked what was wrong with the item.
“He typed in the explanation and I was out the door in probably 3 minutes,” they said.
Commenters insisted this experience wasn’t a one-off and was common at the chain.
“That’s pretty much the norm for Costco returns,” one person wrote.
