Democrat refuses to debate unhinged anti-LGBTQ+ Republican over “extremist views”
In the latest development in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein (D) is refusing to debate anti-LGBTQ+ Lt. Gov Mark Robinson (R) because of Robinson’s extremist views.
A spokeswoman for the Stein campaign said that debating Robinson would spread “his vile and dangerous rhetoric.” Robinson is known for adopting some of the most far-right policies in the Republican party, including calling for the calling for the murder of those on the political far-left.

“Mark Robinson has spent his entire public life spewing hate, lying about his record, and spreading dangerous and false conspiracy theories,” Stein campaign spokeswoman Kate Frauenfelder said. “A debate would only serve to legitimize him and provide a platform for his vile and dangerous rhetoric, and we won’t be part of that.”

Robinson has been calling for a debate on X, writing, “My campaign has offered multiple dates to debate my opponent so the voters can decide for themselves. The question is, will [Stein] agree to debate me?”

Stein has previously left his position on a debate up in the air, while also saying that he “expected” to debate Robinson.
As of the writing of this article, journalists on social media have begun saying that Robinson may soon drop out due to a pending news story. According to journalist Bryan Anderson, Robinson has canceled campaign events because CNN will soon leak a story about him watching transgender porn, wanting to own slaves, and peeping into women’s bathrooms.

Robinson is known for his outlandish quotes and extremist positions.
He has previously called for the murder of those on the left, saying, “Kill them. Some liberal somewhere is going to say that sounds awful. Too bad. Get mad at me if you want to. Some folks need killing! It’s time for somebody to say it…. It’s not a matter of being mean or spiteful. It’s a matter of necessity! When you have wicked people doing wicked things, torturing and murdering and raping.”
Among Robinson’s many anti-LGBTQ+ statements, he has called homosexuality “an abominable sin,” referred to lesbian celebrity Ellen DeGeneres as a “top ranking demon… proudly serving in Satan’s army,” and has called former First Lady Michelle Obama “a man,” repeating a transphobic misogynoir conspiracy theory. He has also called the trans equality movement “demonic” and “full of the spirit of Antichrist.”
In March 2023, Robinson declared that God created him to battle against LGBTQ+ rights and added, “Makes me sick every time I see it — a church that flies that Rainbow flag, which is a direct spit in the face of God almighty.”
Robinson has also said that he considers LGBTQ+ people as “filthy” “demons” who “mentally rape” children. Among his many anti-LGBTQ+ statements, he has called homosexuality “an abominable sin,” has compared LGBTQ+ people to cow dung, and Satanic demons, and said trans people should defecate on public street corners outside rather than using bathrooms matching their gender identity. He has also made numerous racist and antisemitic comments. He also wrote on social media, later adding, “Note to liberals; I’ll accept ‘Gay Pride’ when you accept ‘White Pride.’”
