Top 100 WR Travis Smith is focused on four schools with a commitment date set
Atlanta Westlake four-star wide receiver Travis Smith visited Georgia over the weekend, he will attend the ELITE Series next week in Nashville, then he will take official visits to Georgia (May 31), Auburn (June 7), Alabama (June 14) and Tennessee (June 21).
Once he wraps things up in Knoxville, the No. 92 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking will take some time at home to talk his recruitment out with his family, then announce his decision in July.
“I am going to announce my commitment on July 13,” Smith told On3. “A decision before my senior season has always been my plan. I have been working on this for about a year. I have taken my time, I have built strong connections with these four schools and I am getting closer.
“These are my final four schools and after my official visits, I will be ready to commit. Once I am committed, I am committed, so I have taken my time with the process to make sure I was ready.”
Smith has visited Tuscaloosa around half a dozen times, Auburn is a place he has visited four times, he has tripped to Athens over 10 times and Knoxville has hosted him three times.
The relationships are what put these SEC schools at the top of his list. He knows all about the offensive scheme and what the schools are known for on his side of the ball. These final visits will be crucial as he looks at the other side of things.
“This is a huge time for me. At this time, going into the visits, each school has an equal chance. I know a lot about the schools, I know about their offenses and I feel like I know all about the football side of things.
“These official visits will show me who cares about me, my family, how we would be treated and things like that. I will have a lookout for the family side of things and what the overall culture is like. That will be most important on these visits.”
Smith breaks down Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee
Alabama: “It is about the history at Alabama. You cannot go wrong with the history and the culture at Alabama. all they do is expect to win. Coach Kalen DeBoer put Washington in that national championship, now he is at Alabama in the SEC and he will continue to win at a high level. That is what Alabama does.”
Auburn: “It is the combination of religion and football at Auburn. I have talked to many guys from the Atlanta area that have gone to Auburn and they have told me how the coaches there have made them better men and players. That is important to me. I am a Christian, so religion is big and Auburn has a great combination of that and football. I like the kind of people that are there and where the program is going.”
Georgia: “Georgia has been real from the beginning. They will talk to me about my flaws, how I can improve and how real they have been has always stood out to me. The people are Georgia are real and genuine. That is what makes them different for me.”
Tennessee: “What receiver wouldn’t want to play in Tennessee’s offense? I have been up there to see the stats, I have sat in on meetings and I know the offensive scheme – those things are big for me. They throw the ball, they get the ball to their playmakers and that has Tennessee high on my list.”
