There were some big-time matchups this week, which led to plenty of movement, including a new No. 1 team. Here is where things stand as of Sept. 17, 2024:
1. Detroit Catholic Central (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 4The Shamrocks moved up three spots to No. 1 after beating Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep on the road this past Friday. Detroit Catholic Central got all it wanted in the top 25 showdown, before escaping with a 27-22 win. The win by the Shamrocks sets up a huge game this coming Friday as Detroit Catholic Central will host No. 3 De La Salle Collegiate in a top-5 showdown.
2. Belleville (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 2The Tigers are still unbeaten on the year after pounding Dearborn 49-22 on Friday. Belleville opened the season with a hard-fought win over a really good Clarkston team and has been blowing out its opponents since, although the competition hasn’t been great. The Tigers are led by LSU commit Bryce Underwood, who is the top quarterback and player in the country for the class of 2025.
3. De La Salle Collegiate (3-1)
Previous Ranking: 3The Pilots are still ranked No. 3, despite getting pounded by Central Catholic out of Toledo, Ohio on Friday. De La Salle Collegiate’s first loss of the season was a 41-6 defeat by Central Catholic. Despite that, De La Salle Collegiate has an impressive resume that includes wins over three teams ranked in the top 30 of the Michigan High School Football rankings.
4. Adams (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 6The Highlanders continue to climb the Michigan High School Football rankings and have moved into the top 5 for the first time this year. Adams handled Clarkston 28-10 on Friday, beating a Wolves team that was ranked No. 10. Adams was ranked No. 18 in the preseason but is all the way up to No. 4 after another strong showing this past Friday. The Highlanders have a tough road test coming up against Lake Orion.
5. Zeeland West (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 5The Dux handled rival Zeeland East 28-13 on Friday to remain unbeaten on the season. It was a nice bounce back performance by the Zeeland West defense after allowing 43 points the previous Friday in a shootout win. Zeeland West will face arguably its toughest test of the season to date this coming Friday when it travels to take on Unity Christian in a battle of unbeatens. The Crusaders are ranked No. 10 in the Michigan High School Football poll.
6. Rockford (3-1)
Previous Ranking: 1The previously top-ranked Rams dropped their first game of the season on Friday, falling to Hudsonville 28-21. Rockford had previously played a pair of one-score games, and they finally came out on the wrong end of one last week. The Rams have had a tough schedule to start the season, so it’s no surprise that they eventually dropped a game. Now Rockford will look to get back on track against a 1-3 Jenison team.
7. Eisenhower (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 11Eisenhower has moved up 11 spots over the past two weeks as the Eagles have continued to blow teams out. Eisenhower earned a 30-12 win over Anchor Bay on Friday and now all four of its wins this season are by 17-plus points. The schedule will get tougher over the coming weeks, but the Eagles have been might impressive so far this year.
8. Mona Shores (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 14The Sailors have moved all the way into the top-10 after a 14-12 win over No. 16 Byron Center on Friday. Mona Shores got a little help from Byron Center as the Bulldogs missed an extra point early on, then failed to get a two-point conversion late, per Fox 17. The station also reports that Micah Carefelle had the game-clinching interception for Mona Shores, which has now won two games by two points.
9. Davison (3-1)
Previous Ranking: 12Davison is back in the top 10 of the Michigan High School Football Rankings after beating Heritage 45-22 on Friday. The Cardinals dropped out of the top 10 after opening the season with a loss to De La Salle Collegiate, but they have rebounded nicely since. Davison QB Jaxson Dosh and running back AJ Hill each had over 100 rushing yards and each had two rushing touchdowns, per ABC 12.
10. Unity Christian (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 24The Crusaders have gone from unranked to in the top 10 after huge wins the past two weeks. Unity Christian handled a top-10 Forest Hills Central team 43-20 this past week. The Crusaders have won all four games by more than 20 points and have been one of the biggest surprises in Michigan High School Football so far this season.
