His Wife Started Crying When He Told Her He Brought The Cat She Adopted Without His Permission To A Shelter
For five years now, this 34-year-old man has been married to his 33-year-old wife. Back when they tied the knot, he had one dog, and his wife had one cat.
They have gone on to get another dog and two cats from a local animal rescue. His dog is beginning to grow older and has a couple of health problems.
Two of their cats additionally have some challenges with their health. While the conditions are not life-threatening, these two cats need special care and medication.
“The last cat we got was one that my wife brought home on her own after visiting the rescue agency about an unrelated question,” he explained.
“She saw the cat and “just had to bring her home.” This was about 6 months ago. I told her at the time that bringing home animals needs to be something we discuss together beforehand.”
“We already have pets with health issues, and bringing strange animals into their home isn’t a good idea. She apologized and agreed that any future pets would be discussed and agreed upon beforehand.”
He let his wife know that if she adopted another animal without his permission again, he would take that animal directly to a shelter.
A week ago, he was running some errands while on his lunch break and quickly stopped at their house.
When he walked in the door, he heard a weak meowing sound, and he initially figured one of their cats had gotten stuck.

He began looking around and realized all three of their cats were accounted for. But then he realized the meowing was coming from a closet with a closed door.
He opened the closet to find a cat carrier, and inside of it was a cat he didn’t know. He grabbed the cat carrier with the cat, climbed into his car, and directly drove to an animal shelter.
The shelter said his wife hadn’t adopted the cat from them, but they were happy to take the cat. He says it’s alright since the shelter doesn’t put any of their animals down, so the cat is not at risk with them.
He drove back to work and didn’t confront his wife about the cat she brought home without asking him first.
Later that evening, he expected his wife to address the cat, but she didn’t. It took her another whole day for her to confess.
“She asked me if I had taken the cat to the shelter, and I told her I did,” he said. “She started crying and told me that she was just holding it for someone else because she saw it on a Facebook group, and she wanted to help.”
“She said she never had any intention of keeping it and that she already had a home lined up for it, and now she has to call them and tell them what I did. I asked her why she would try to hide the cat from me if that was what she was planning.”
“I told her that was something that we could have discussed together instead of her going behind my back and trying to sneak around. She told me she was going to bring it to our vet before bringing it to the new family, and it was only going to be in our house for one night.”
His wife is furious with him for taking the cat to the shelter after he discovered the stowaway, but he doesn’t think she’s allowed to be angry with him.
He only followed through on the promise he made to her when she adopted that other cat without asking him a couple of months ago.
His wife tried to be deceitful, and he truly believes she wanted this cat for herself and made up a story about the family wanting the cat.
He’s left wondering if it was wrong of him to do what he told his wife he would after she brought the cat into their home without his permission.
