Notre Dame to host Florida DL commit for June official visit
Tallahassee (Fla.) James Rickards class of 2025 defensive lineman and Florida commit Jalen Wiggins will officially visit Notre Dame June 18-20, sources tell Blue & Gold.
Wiggins has been committed to the Gators since Jan. 15, but other schools have not slowed down their pursuit of the four-star prospect. The likes of Florida State and Stanford have been working on Wiggins, with the Seminoles having the local angle to push, while the Cardinal are pitching their academics with Wiggins being such a strong student.
Notre Dame entered the mix April 25, as Notre Dame director of player personnel Chad Bowden stopped by Wiggins high school to inquire about the 6-5, 235-pounder. Five days later, Wiggins tweeted out that he earned an offer from the Irish. Bowden, defensive line coach Al Washington and the rest of the Irish staff has continued to work on Wiggins the past couple weeks, leading to Wiggins setting up the official visit.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Wiggins is the No. 91 overall prospect and No. 7 defensive lineman in the country.
Wiggins has officials set up with Stanford May 31, Florida June 7 and Florida State June 21. UCF is also recruiting him and hopes to make a move.
During a conversation with On3’s Keith Niebuhr earlier this month, Wiggins spoke about his interest in Notre Dame.
“Their independent schedule — they’re able to play basically anyone because they’re not in a conference,” Wiggins said. “That’s pretty cool; they pick who they want to play. And then the academics.”
On3’s Steve Wiltfong recently spoke about Wiggins’ recruitment on the On3 YouTube channel.
“Defensive lineman Jalen Wiggins, who we’ve talked about regularly on this show, is committed to Florida but he’s keeping the door open for a lot of programs,” Wiltfong said. “He’s a high academic kid. We talked last week about Florida State being in the thick of that, but Notre Dame and Stanford are certainly trying to get involved.”
Wiggins would like to shut down his recruiting process after his summer official visits and before the start of his senior season.
The Irish currently have four defensive linemen committed in 2025: Christopher Burgess Jr., Davion Dixon, Dominik Hulak and Joseph Reiff. Burgess projects as a strongside defensive end, while Dixon and Reiff trend toward being interior players. Hulak will start out at the vyper position.
Chicago Simeon’s Burgess is the highest-ranked recruit of the trio. The 6-4, 240-pound four-star is the No. 106 overall player, No. 15 EDGE nationally and No. 4 prospect in Illinois.
Elmhurst (Ill.) York Community’s Reiff is also a four-star and the No. 322 overall player, No. 26 defensive lineman in America and No. 8 prospect in the state.
Miami Palmetto’s Dixon, a three-star, is the No. 744 overall player, No. 63 defensive lineman in the country and No. 95 prospect in Florida.
Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception’s Hulak is the No. 472 overall player and No. 50 linebacker nationally, but the Irish view him as a vyper recruit.
