Weston EMT Honored For Her Community Service Work

**News Release Submitted by Weston EMS**May 9, 2024Weston EMS is proud to announce that EMT and Crew Chief, Elena Moffly, received the Phyllis McHattie Gridley Service Award at the Building Hope Foundation's 20th Anniversary Gala on May 4. Elena was recognized for her outstanding community service work with Weston Volunteer EMS where she has been a member since 2016.She is the first recipient of this award which honors Phyllis McHatttie, who returned to work as a head nurse of a neonatal ward and hospital administration after having six children and spent a lifetime giving of her time, energy and leadership skills to those in need.Elena single-handedly responded to almost 50% of more than 1,000 EMS calls during the Pandemic. Her self-sacrificing dedication and commitment to helping those in need during a national crisis was a truly herculean task.In 2023, Elena was also awarded the Cardiac Arrest Save Unit Citation by the Weston Volunteer Fire Department.The Building Hope Foundation was founded in 2004 by members of the Fairfield County home-building community whose mission is to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children and veterans in Fairfield County.The Foundation assists veterans, families, and other charitable organizations of Fairfield County with structural improvements like access ramps, elevators, safety doors. They also offer programs including music therapy classes along with the Marine Veterans of Fairfield County, Inc. and also hold an annual toy drive, and scholarship competition.A longtime Weston resident, Elena lives with her husband Jonathan and their five children. When not on active duty with Westron EMS, where she is also responsible for the procurement of medical supplies, Elena works with her husband at Moffly Media as the Business Manager, Executive Management.In her spare time, Elena plays golf and flies planes, having received her private pilot's license 13 years ago.
