How to apply for 2025 RI State Police training academy
NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) — Anyone interested in a career with the Rhode Island State Police can now apply to join the next training academy.
"We're excited to announce that we are recruiting our next class of troopers, and we invite qualified candidates to apply," Col. Darnell Weaver said in a press release. "A career with the Rhode Island State Police is meaningful public service and we are seeking exceptional candidates with diverse experiences and talents to join our job."
The deadline to apply is Saturday, Aug. 31, and the academy begins in January.

To be considered for the academy, candidates must:
Be between the ages of 18 and 35
Be a U.S. citizen
Be a high school graduate or hold a GED
Possess a valid driver's license (or be willing and eligible to get one)
Meet two vision requirements:
Visual acuity of 20/40 (binocular vision) or better without corrective lenses
Visual acuity of 20/20 or better with corrective lenses
Not possess a criminal conviction for a felony offense
A background investigation will be conducted, during which the candidate will be asked about any arrests, convictions, illegal drug use, and traffic collisions and citations.
In the coming weeks, there will be some opportunities to learn more about the job, according to state police.

Physical fitness training session
This will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the CCRI Lincoln Fieldhouse (1762 Old Louisquisset Pike). Candidates will have a chance to measure their current fitness level and find out what's needed to pass the agility test.
Open house
On Saturday, July 13, Rhode Island State Police will hold an open house from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at its North Scituate headquarters (311 Danielson Pike). Troopers from different departments will be on hand to speak with candidates.
Women's forum
Candidates can hear from women troopers about their experience on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the North Scituate headquarters.
