2025 juco tight end Emeka Lloh discusses recent Mississippi State offer
2025 tight end prospect Emeka Lloh is still very new to the sport of football. The Georgia native focused mostly on basketball during his prep career before giving the gridiron a try his final year at Mcintosh (Ga.) High School.
It didn’t take long for Lloh to embrace football, however, and he played last season at Coahoma Community College.
“I played football just my senior year and besides that, I was just a basketball player,” Lloh explained. “I ended up falling in love with football and it’s been good at Coahoma. The reason I came to Coahoma was because of Coach (Terrance) Metcalf. He is more of a father figure for me and a coach, and our connection is why I came there.”
During his first juco season, Lloh had to put the team first and had to make an adjustment to his position on the field. Due to team needs, Lloh played on the defensive line last season but he will return to his tight end responsibilities this coming season.
“When I got there in the spring of last year, I came in as a tight end,” added the 6-foot-9 and 250-pound Lloh. “But they had an older tight end in front of me and before I could try for the spot, a defensive lineman tore his ACL in the spring. So coach asked me if I would help us at defensive end because they knew what I could do at tight end.
“So I played defensive end and special teams last year, and I had no problem playing defensive end and I like special teams. But now I am back at tight end and I am starting to get some buzz in recruiting. So I got back to tight end in the spring and I had to get used to it again. I had to elevate my game on offense after being on defense for a year.”
On the recruiting scene, Lloh is beginning to gain more traction, as well. He has collected two offers thus far and that includes his first SEC offer that was earned late last month at Mississippi State’s Top Dawg Clinic.
“UTSA came and offered me during the spring when they watched me at our spring practices,” Lloh recalled. “Then Mississippi State was my second offer. Mississippi State was my first camp and I just started getting my name out there on Twitter after my coaches showed me how to get my name out there.
“I thought about going to an Ole Miss camp but it is hard because I am back in Georgia now. I was really interested in Mississippi State so I drove the five hours to their camp and came back home that same night. I may try to go to an Ole Miss camp at end of June but I don’t have much time because we report back to Coahoma on June 30th.”
And during those camp drills at Mississippi State, Lloh took advantage of the SEC coaching to improve his game at tight end.
“I really enjoyed the Mississippi State camp and I had a good time,” noted Lloh. “The coaches taught me a lot of things and told me what to work on going into the summer to elevate my game. I am working on those things in my workouts and train like a pro and have a pro mindset.”
Earlier this spring, Lloh landed on Mississippi State’s radar and he took an unofficial visit to Starkville during Super Bulldog Weekend. He shared his thoughts on coach Jon Cooper and he thinks highly of State’s tight ends coach.
“Coach Cooper is an amazing guy and we’ve had a couple of talks,” Lloh remarked. “Prior to that camp, I went to Mississippi State for an unofficial visit and went to their spring game. Then one of their coaches came to my spring game. Coach Cooper has been nothing but great, trying to teach me a lot about the tight end position.
“He was showing me how to run my routes, dropping my hips in my breaks and extending my arms because I am so long. Everything he has taught me has been beneficial for me and my game.”
Also this summer, Lloh is looking at the possibility of taking an official visit or two. He also wants to return to Starkville for an official visit in the future.
“UTSA was trying to get me out there this summer for a visit,” noted Lloh. “Then Mississippi State told me that I will be able to come there sometime during the season for an official visit.”
As his sophomore season at Coahoma Community College approaches, Lloh is eager to see what lies ahead in his recruiting process. And that could determine his decision timeframe for choosing his college path.
“I really want to see what kind of buzz I can create during the season,” Lloh mentioned. “Then I want to make my decision around midseason or towards the back half of the season.”
