Xbox Game Pass price rise could lock Call Of Duty behind new tier claim insiders
Will you pass on this year’s Call Of Duty? (Activision)
Call Of Duty’s rumoured arrival on Xbox Game Pass will coincide with some changes to the subscription service, according to various sources.
Microsoft has not confirmed if Call Of Duty is coming to Xbox Game Pass this year, but reports suggest that it will be announced at the company’s showcase in June – or perhaps even the game reveal expected sometime earlier.
The next Call Of Duty, believed to be set during the Gulf War, is expected to be revealed prior to the Xbox Showcase on June 9. While Microsoft is trying to pretend it’s a secret, the special presentation after the showcase is also believed to be dedicated to Call Of Duty.
A recent report from The Wall Street Journal claims Microsoft will introduce Call Of Duty to Xbox Game Pass with the next instalment in October, and now it seems like its arrival will coincide with some price changes to the subscription service.
On ResetEra, reliable industry insider Shinobi602 responded to a post which suggested Microsoft would ‘for sure’ add a ‘new fee’ and ‘reorganise the tiers’ on Xbox Game Pass in light of the Call Of Duty rumours, writing: ‘There will be changes, yes.’
This claim was supported by fellow industry insider NateDrake, who added: ‘Changes are coming in the form of pricing and a tier change.’
While there’s no specific details, a report on The Verge last week claimed Microsoft is considering raising the price of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription again (it’s currently £12.99 a month in the UK) to coincide with Call Of Duty’s arrival on the service.
The suggestion of a new tier indicates Microsoft could lock Call Of Duty behind a higher-priced paywall, which would make sense if the company hopes to recover revenue it will lose from full price sales.

Considering Call Of Duty is one of the biggest money-makers in the games industry, it’s unsurprising that Microsoft would look to increase prices to capitalise on its popularity. With Xbox Series X/S sales and Game Pass numbers in decline , this might be the last chance of turning the service’s fortunes around.
We’ll see if this all comes to fruition at the Xbox Showcase on June 9, which is also expected to show off Gears Of War 6 and a new Doom.
