Arlington Rolls Out Smaller Trash Cans in June, Heeding Residents' Calls for Easier Handling
The City of Arlington is rolling out smaller trash cans in June, catering to the clamor of residents wanting to swap the hefty 95-gallon bins currently lining the streets for a more manageable 65-gallon. According to the City of Arlington, Texas, the scaled-down receptacles represent the final step in the municipal trash service's makeover.
In anticipation of the switch, homeowners who reached out by the cut-off on May 29, either through a good old-fashioned phone call or a nifty online form, will see the new carts on their doorstep during the regularly scheduled June trash pick-up. Making life a tad confusing, the cart exchange will happen independently, executed by another crew not involved in the regular garbage collection – this means no set date for delivery.
With a nod to logistics, residents are asked to leave their 95-gallon dinosaurs at the curb between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on any of their normal garbage collection days until the swap is a done deal. If the team handling the exchange pops by prior to the appearance of the trash collectors, they'll transfer the garbage to the new smaller cart themselves.
Those late to the party and still hoping to downsize can request a smaller cart through the Ask Arlington App, choosing "Garbage & Recycling" followed by the "Decrease Trash Cart Size" option, or they can get on the horn with the Action Center at 817-459-6777. The City acknowledges, that requests logged after May 29 will be handled at some point post-June when the initial wave of exchanges is complete.
