199 Boats and Over $5.7 Million in 33rd Annual MidAtlantic Tournament

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6vBBlmXLcg

We had a little rain in Ocean City, MD and in Cape May, NJ for day 1 of the 2024 MidAtlantic Tournament, but that didn't stop boats from brining some very nice fish to the scales.  There are 199 boats vying for over $5.7 Million in prize money and 88 of those boats fished today trying to get a piece of it.  Tomorrow might be a light day of fishing with some NW winds expected to blow, but that just means that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be busy.  Here's who's leading after the first day of fishing.

White Marlin

1st Place     Leslie Ann     74 Lbs

2nd Place     Wayne's World     67 Lbs

Blue Marlin

None

Tuna

1st Place     Reel Tight     180 Lb Bigeye

2nd Place     Warden Pass     174 Lb Bigeye

3rd Place     El Jefe     57 Lb Yellowfin

Away from the tournament, Captain Nick Sampson and his crew on the WOP had a good day with the meat putting a pile of fish in the fish box including tiles and mahi.

Captain Kane Bounds and his crews on Fish Bound have been enjoying some good fishing with lots of different species coming aboard.  Flounder fishing isn't where we'd like it to be, but Fish Bound is seeing sea bass, bluefish, tilefish and even monkfish and a pollock.

Anglers fishing on board the Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak had a slow pick of sea bass at first, but they amounted to a nice catch by the end of the day.  There were also some flounder and mahi on board today.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a nice day with the mahi on today's trip.
Ocean a bit boisterous first thing this morning, it soon piped down to become a glorious day.
Brian and Dad Brian shot a small block unit off the stern launch ramp and onto a reef I've worked on a few years.
My rail was so light, I invited mate Joey to bring his young family aboard. Five year old LJ did great helping Mom & Jermaine send two pyramids into the briney. He also caught his first mahi. I expect he'll see many more.
Way the bite began I had visions of an early dismissal - limited and going home early..
Old man Murphy took care of that business as I struggled to find a few more. I finally found two decent schools before heading in - left a half hour early, got in 1:15 late..
Just right.
Mate Joey had noooo problem fitting all my clients in a group snap..
Hope these mahi continue. I do enjoy fishing for them!
Cheers,
Monty

Ross Thomas and his family from Chicago were back in Ocean City and had a fun trip with Captain Tony Battista of Saltwater Adventures putting two nice keeper flounder in the cooler and releasing a bunch more.

Stacey was fishing with Rich Daiker at the route 50 bridge yesterday on the outgoing tide when she landed this nice 18.5" keeper flounder.

Love fishing the Route 50 bridge!!  Check it out!!
