Carolina Panthers releasing WR Terrace Marshall
The Carolina Panthers are releasing receiver Terrace Marshall, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported Tuesday.
Marshall, Carolina’s second round (59th overall) selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, came into the league with tons of promise, but failed to meet expectations in three seasons with the Panthers. He appeared in 36 games (16 starts), hauling in 64 receptions for 767 yards and one touchdown. Marshall was inactive for seven of the final eight games this past season.
He came into training camp this season rejuvenated under a new coaching staff, and had a strong showing, making his release somewhat surprising. Marshall tallied five catches for 53 yards and a score during the preseason.

The Panthers, however, were known to be shopping the 24-year-old, but were unable to find a trade partner. He’ll now look to find a new team before the regular season begins next month. Still young, Marshall should garner interest on the waiver wire.
The Panthers save $1.44 million by moving on from Marshall.
Panthers releasing Terrace Marshall, making several other moves
Marshall is one of several pass catchers to not make Carolina’s initial 53-man roster. The others include: Mike Strachan, Sam Pinckney, Jacob Hollister and Jordan Matthews.
Head coach Dave Canales said Monday that the receiver room came out of camp as their “strongest group.”
“It certainly came out of camp as the strongest group that we have on this team,” Canales said. “There’s a lot of really important decisions that I of course don’t want to get into and specific numbers because I know that there’s people looking at our guys. There is a possibility that we could keep seven. There’s a possibility that we keep four and add two guys from other places that might upgrade the room.
“We’re wide-open, but what I will say is that group showed up this camp and they all to a man did something that got our attention. We have to look at the whole roster and say, how many can we afford to keep at that position? It definitely is a highlighted group.”
