seconde/seconde/ and MAEN's Radical Timepiece Pay Homage to the Manhattan Project
French creative Romaric André, best known for his moniker seconde/seconde/, is back with more tongue-in-cheek watch collaborations. This time, he’s reuniting with Swedish watch brand MAEN for their second timepiece. This collaborative wristwatch marks the inauguration of MAEN’s Manhattan Project, which starts with this bold reimagining of their Manhattan 37 model. The standard Manhattan 37 reference borrows its aesthetic cues from the ‘70s, a time when the spotlight was on luxury timepieces with integrated bracelets. While the general silhouette and specs remain, its classic adornments have been eradicated from the Côtes de Genève dial to symbolize the frightening consequences of the original Manhattan Project.Connecting the hour and minute hands is a trefoil motif that’s commonly used as a universal ionizing radiation symbol, another element that nods to the theme of the collaboration. Over on the back of the watch case, a special engraving featuring a 1965 historical quote by J. Robert Oppenheimer can be found.Priced at $1,057 USD, the Manhattan 37 x seconde/seconde/ Limited Edition will open for pre-order for 24 hours only on June 7, 4 p.m. Stockholm time/ 10 a.m. EDT. For more details on the watch, visit its dedicated webpage on MAEN’s official website.
