Shane Beamer reveals pregame message to South Carolina, what LSU game could mean for season
South Carolina is hosting LSU on Saturday in what is suddenly a monster game for the Gamecocks. Shane Beamer and company upset Kentucky last weekend, setting the stage for ESPN College GameDay to come to town and bring a lot more attention to the game.
Beamer is proud of what his team did last weekend against Kentucky, but he also knows that South Carolina must continue to build on that win in order to have the type of season it wants to have.

Beamer’s message to his team this week has been about continuing to take steps forward.
“We’ve been talking about it all this week, like that game last week against Kentucky, we’re either going to look back at that game in nine weeks or 10 weeks and say that game really propelled us to a special season. Or we’re going to look back and say, ‘You know what, what an opportunity wasted after that performance at Kentucky,’” Shane Beamer said Friday on The Pat McAfee Show.

“And that’s one of the biggest challenges we have this week is just nobody thought we were worth a crap last week. Nobody thought GameDay was going to be here this week. And we just went to work last week, the practices leading up to Kentucky, and just worked. And that’s what we’ve been talking about with our guys all week is just consistent routine, do what we did last week.”
Beamer added that he feels good about the talent South Carolina has going into its showdown with LSU.
The Gamecocks have a veteran club, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The defense has been excellent through the first two weeks of the season, allowing only 12.5 points and 244 yards per game. South Carolina has also forced six turnovers through two games.
“Right now we’re a group that plays together, great connection. Got our guys that have been around here for a while. Really good defense. We showed that last week up at Kentucky,” Shane Beamer said. “Got a big challenge tomorrow against this LSU offensive line, for sure, but a lot of really good players on our defense.
“And then an offense with a lot of new players, it’s a lot of new faces. They’re coming around. Great special teams. Have been doing a good job from a special teams standpoint. We’re going to need to tomorrow. But it’s a group that’s very hungry, very confident. Obviously we’ve had two good weeks and need to keep it going.”
