Even Taylor Swift fans hate the idea of her acting as Marvel rumours persist

Global megastar Taylor Swift has left fans clutching their concert tickets in horror as rumours swirl that she could be moving into the world of superheroes.
Despite being on her mammoth Eras Tour, releasing a new 31-track album, and generally living her life with Travis Kelce, she’s also apparently heading to Marvel.
No this isn’t the persistent rumour that Taylor will cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine as Dazzler, instead the Blank Space hitmaker is said to be in talks over a TV series.
Reportedly, the 34-year-old singer has met with Marvel CEO Kevin Feige to potentially front a Disney Plus ‘crime fighting spy series’ as the Blonde Phantom.
Five years ago, this news would have driven even the least enthusiastic Swiftie into a frenzy but the information appears to have sparked disappointment.
Marvel may be about to learn that when it comes to her acting career, Taylor’s fans simply don’t care.

The rumour comes from leaker Daniel Richtman, who believes Taylor could play Blonde Phantom, aka Louise Grant, as she takes on crime in 1950s Las Vegas.
Louise debuted in the comics in 1946 as a secretary by day, crime fighter by night and has worked alongside She-Hulk in modern iterations.
The world’s biggest pop star joining forces with the world’s biggest franchise would usually be cause for celebration but fans from both sides are less than enthusiastic.
While the responses were filled with the expected Marvel fans generically hating on Taylor, the reaction from Swifties was more surprising.
‘Every day she finds a new way to embarrass me personally and then when i’m at the end of my tether she drops something like clara bow to reel me back in. sick woman,’ joked Char.

Pheebsluvr added: ‘Taylor Swift [and] the mcu are two of my favourite things in the world but I think the last thing I want for either of them is for Taylor to play a superhero…’
Melissa Enchanted said: ‘This is super interesting to me because I adore Taylor, I buy her merch, watch Eras livestreams etc. BUT I have never gone to a theatre to watch Taylor as an actor rather than a musician.
‘Cats? Haven’t seen it. Amsterdam? Didn’t even read the plot. I didn’t even know about The Giver until I saw gifs. I’m a huge MCU fan, but if I’m going to see something, Taylor Swift would have no impact on if I did or didn’t go to the theatre. Case in point, Harry Styles in Eternals.’

Many still defended the decision, feeling protective over Taylor opening herself up to a fanbase that historically has not been kind to it’s female leads.
Existing Marvel fans are already lamenting the quality dip in the franchise — feeling underwhelmed by the projects released but overwhelmed by the quantity.
This rumour was called an omen for the demise of the once beloved franchise, with some suggesting the money making machine that is Taylor is all bosses are interested in.
taylor girl you’re like 5 years too late for this…. remember how harry styles mcu moment ended… don’t embarrass me like this girl https://t.co/oRF3BW08HA— syd📠(@COSMlCSYD) May 20, 2024
I’m curious if there are any Swifties out there who are actually excited to see Taylor potentially in the MCU.— Rachel Chapmanâ·ðŸŒ‘👩â€ðŸš€ (@LadyTomHanks) May 23, 2024
The crux of the issue for Swifties is that the Down Bad singer is simply too big to blend into a film unless it was a meta cameo as was suggested for Deadpool.
She would stand out for being Taylor Swift rather than becoming Dazzler or Blonde Phantom, even if her acting was phenomenal.
Swifties joked that was if they even watched the series as they haven’t seen half of the films in which she has starred given her history of her choosing less successful projects.
Taylor was infamously in Cats (2019), which was ridiculed and panned universally, as well as a cameo in Amsterdam (2022) and The Giver (2014).

In the early days of her career she leant her voice to animated film The Lorax (2012) alongside Zac Efron as well as debuting in ensemble Garry Marshall rom-com Valentine’s Day (2010).
More successfully, Taylor also appeared and directed her own short film, All Too Well, which stars Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink.
While the Blonde Phantom rumour is just that — a rumour — the resounding cry of the internet has been ‘No thank you’.
Unfortunately for Marvel, Taylor Swift may not turn out to be the superhero they need and she’s certainly not the one fans want, even her own.
