During Thursday’s Wheel of Fortune episode, contestant Tyra made it all the way to the bonus round.
The category was food and drink and, despite five letters being given, she struggled to guess the correct answer.
“Chef’s table,” Tracy guessed initially.
The seconds continued ticking away, and it became clear that Tracy was stumped.
Letters began to appear, filling out the puzzle.
The correct answer – chewy taffy – appeared on the screen.
Tracy let out an audible sigh, which was met with resistance from Pat.
“What do you mean, oh?” he questioned.
She laughed and responded, “I would have never guessed that.”
The pair shared a laugh before Pat opened the prize card to reveal what Tracy missed out on.
Wheel of Fortune Host Timeline
Although Pat and Vanna have been a staple on the game show for decades, there have been other hosts
Chuck Woolery was the host from 1975 to 1981
He co-hosted alongside Susan Stafford (1975 to 1982)
Vanna White then stepped in as hostess in 1982 and has been ever since
After a contract and salary dispute, the show got rid of Chuck and brought in Pat in 1982
Pat hosted with Susan for one season
He then left the game show in 1989 to host a late-night talk show for CBS
For five months, NFL player Rolf Benirschke took his place
In July 1989, Bob Goen hosted the show on CBS
He hosted for a year and a half until the show was canceled in 1991
The show was then moved to ABC with Pat and Vanna hosting for the foreseeable future
In 2023, Pat announced his retirement and Ryan Seacrest as quickly named as his replacement
“It was the car,” she said with disappointment in her voice.
Although Tyra didn’t get any support from Pat on her episode of Wheel of Fortune, she did get some from fans.
On social media, viewers shared kind messages for the competitor.
“I love Tyra. She’s the best!” one person wrote in the YouTube comments.
“Oh well, Tyra still did great!” someone else gushed.
OUT WITH A BANG
Pat is preparing to retire from Wheel of Fortune.
In his final episodes on the show, fans have noticed an air of looseness like never before.
Pat’s interaction with Tyra isn’t the first time he’s snapped at a contestant on Wheel of Fortune in recent weeks.
In fact, just a few episodes prior, he had to jump in to correct all three players in an awkward moment.
On Monday, May 27, Pat shouted at all three players as the prematurely celebrated one player’s perceived right answer.
However, the problem was that the answer wasn’t right.
During the Triple Toss Up, the panel of players were tasked with solving three phrase-based puzzles.
Returning contestant Cynthia quickly solved two puzzles, earning herself $4,000.
She was stumped on the third, which allowed her competitor, Rufus, to deliver his own response.
“Don’t look away,” he suggested.
As soon as he responded, Cynthia clapped, and the third player, Luidgi, reached out a hand for a fist bump.
Pat, however, was not celebrating.
“No! No!” he yelled.
The players stopped, stunned.
“It’s not correct,” Pat explained.
“Everybody’s congratulating everybody, and we get to keep the money.”
PEACE OUT, PAT
Pat will be retiring from Wheel of Fortune next month.
His final episode, “Thanks For The Memories,” will air on June 7.
It hasn’t yet been revealed whether Pat’s farewell episode will be an all-out tribute or a normal episode with a goodbye at the end.
Either way, the episode will be a major milestone.
Pat has been appearing on Wheel of Fortune since 1981, and was joined by Vanna White, 66, in 1982.
Asked by TVInsider on Monday how long she thinks she’ll stay with the show, Vanna said, “I don’t know.
“When I heard that Pat was retiring, I thought maybe I should retire too, but I’m not ready!
“We’ll see toward the end of those two years how I feel.
“I thank God after all these years that I still love my job.”
Ryan Seacrest, 49, was selected as Pat’s replacement last year.
