Trump says Ukraine security guarantees won’t mean US boots on ground
by TheHill.com -
A day after the White House’s historic gathering of President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, Trump said the administration is working to set up a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky.
In a call to Fox News’s “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday morning, Trump reiterated a plan for security guarantees for Ukraine, but emphasized it would not mean American troops on the ground there.
Trump said he would not attend an initial meeting between the leaders but agreed to join a follow-up trilateral meeting if asked. Plans with Putin would become more clear in a couple of weeks, he said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday said, “We do not reject any working formats – neither bilateral, nor trilateral, the president has repeatedly mentioned this,” according to TASS, the Russian state media.
In Washington, the number of National Guard members patrolling the streets will nearly double in coming days, a major escalation of Trump’s efforts to take over law enforcement in the nation’s capital.

Raskin: Trump's National Guard DC deployment is 'recipe for chaos'
Tara Suter
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Monday said President Trump’s crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., using the National Guard is “a recipe for chaos.”
“Now they’re mobilizing the National Guard, they’re bringing the National Guard in from South Carolina, from Ohio, from West Virginia, from all these states, why?” Raskin, whose congressional district borders the District, said on MSNBC’s “The Weeknight.”
“And what’s the precedent for that? I’m not even sure what the authority for that is, under whose direction are they serving? Are they being directed by the governors of those states or are they under President Trump’s direction now?” Raskin added.
“But does that mean they’ve been federalized, because I don’t believe they’ve been federalized. So, this is just a recipe for chaos, and if this is the template for what he wants to do in all of these other so-called ‘Democrat-run cities,’ it is a recipe for chaos.”
USDA limits funding for solar, wind on farmland
Rachel Frazin
The Agriculture Department is curtailing its support for solar and wind energy on farmlands.
In a Monday post on the social media platform X, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the department “will no longer deploy programs to fund solar or wind projects on productive farmland, ending massive taxpayer handouts.”
The department, on Tuesday, said that wind and solar projects would no longer be eligible for USDA business and industry loan guarantees.
It also said it would put restrictions on projects that receive funding through the Rural Energy for America Program. Specifically, larger solar projects — those with a capacity of more than 50 kilowatts — will not be eligible.
The moves come on the heels of other administration efforts to hamper renewable energy.
Trump says he discussed missing children with EU chief
Sarah Fortinsky
President Trump said late Monday he is in discussion with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, over the issue of missing children — a key concern for Ukrainians after three-and-a-half years of war against Russia.
“Ursula von der Leyen, the distinguished and Highly Respected President of the European Commission, and I have been discussing the massive Worldwide problem of missing children,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
