Cheryl Burke apologizes to former DWTS partner
You saw a whole other side of me that no one has ever seen," she told the fitness coach Cody Rigsby.

Not all walks down memory lane are pleasant. Former Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke just took a painful trek into her TV past and came back with a handful of regrets.
"I just watched all of our dances," she told her season 30 partner Cody Rigsby on a recent episode of her Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast. "First of all, I just want to say to you, I apologize for my personality at that time and my attitude, because it had nothing to do with you. I just want you to know that."
"I know that, I even wrote it in the book!" Rigsby assured her, referring to his 2023 memoir XOXO, Cody, in which he detailed his time paired with Burke on DWTS.
"Well now you do," Burke joked, but pressed on: "I wish that I was in a different time at that moment, because I was really looking forward to dancing with you, and just from what I’d seen and people saying how fun you are, I wish I would have embraced that more. You're right, though; when you wrote in your book that I was very short and testy.... I don't know if it was also the longevity that I experienced on the show, but it was different. You saw a whole other side of me that no one has ever seen. I didn't know I had that in me as well, because I was going through a separation. There was a lot of things I had found out literally days before I met you."
DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Semi-Finals" - The penultimate episode will feature this seasons six remaining couples battling it out in two rounds of dances for a spot in the finale, as they also face a double elimination live, MONDAY, NOV. 15 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on ABC

Season 30 was Burke's penultimate season as a DWTS. She'd vie for the mirrorball trophy one more time, with Good Morning America anchor Sam Champion, before drawing the curtain on her 26-season tenure on the show. When season 30 was being filmed in 2021, Burke was married to actor Matthew Lawrence. Just three months after the finale, Burke filed for divorce.
For his part, Rigsby said he "had a lot of compassion for you because experiencing that show one time is exhausting, traumatizing. You have to do so much soul searching and be so okay with yourself, just doing it once... For you, to have done that multiple seasons, it just has to take its toll on you, regardless of how strong an individual can be."

"I hope you accept my apology," Burke said. "I wish that things were different. But hey, it is what it is, and I've learned a lot. It sucks to think that if you would have danced with somebody else, you might have had a better experience... I will take our experience as a lesson as well. But also it was f---ing emotional."
Burke has been outspoken about her criticisms of the series on her podcast, even insinuating she was not invited back for the show's tribute to judge Len Goodman after his passing because "some people may not be happy with my podcast." Still, she told Entertainment Weekly in April, "I credit [DWTS producers] for giving me a voice in general... I think coming into my own and being able to stand on my own two feet, I credit Dancing With the Stars for that."
