Fishing, Fireworks, Food Trucks, & Hair Metal: Summer In CT Starts Now
CONNECTICUT — You may still be waiting for that solstice thing on June 20, but Connecticut has already entered Full Summer Mode, with fishing, wine, classic cars, fireworks, and — obviously — food trucks. So, do your best to keep up…Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic will be holding its annual Riverfest on Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2. Visitors can tour visiting fishing vessels docked at the museum for the weekend, and immerse themselves in special demonstrations like sail handling aboard historic vessels, cod fishing, and open hearth cooking. There will be plenty of local seafood, artisan craft booths and live music, and you can also enjoy a captained boat ride, or take out a sailboat, rowboat, or pedal boat and be your own master and commander. Tickets to Riverfest are available online here. While not exactly chocolate and peanut butter, dogs and wine is a pairing the Bethlehem Vineyard & Winery hopes catches on. The winemakers and Southbury's Companion Pet Rescue will be testing their theory with a Wine & Wiggles Dog Adoption Event on Sunday, June 2. The rain-or-shine outdoor meet-and-greet (a large tent will provide protection from inclement weather) runs from 1 to 4 p.m., and the puppies will be available to cuddle, walk and play with the whole time. Open your heart to one and provide it with a forever home, and you leave with a complementary bottle of wine. The City of Shelton has the right idea, urging residents to "Start June off right!" with a convoy of food trucks. The massive mobile feast runs 5-10 p.m. Friday, May 31, and returns noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Alongside the 25-plus food trucks, the annual "Food Trucks on the River" festival will host children’s activities, artisan vendors, live music, mini-golf, a beer and wine garden, and whatever else organizers can squeeze into Veterans Memorial Park.If that's not enough food trucks for you, we understand — it is Connecticut, after all. So be sure to hit up the 3rd Annual Barnum Festival Car Show Concert/Carnival & Food Truck Festival in Monroe this weekend. The gates open for the carnival concessions, rides and a dozen food trucks at 5 p.m. Friday, and 80s "premiere tribute band" Mullett takes the stage at 8 p.m. There's also another beer and wine garden, and the car show rolls in Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's all happening at 1545 Monroe Turnpike. You'll have plenty of opportunity to walk off those zeppoles throughout the weekend, as woodlands across the state celebrate CT Trails Day on Saturday and Sunday. Sponsored by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, rangers and trail guides have organized hikes and guided walks in secluded enclaves from Ansonia to Woodbury. From a quick half-mile "Beginner's Bird Walk" in Canton to a 9-mile exploration of Natchaug State Forest in Eastford, there are hikes planned for every ability level, and many are tagged as "dog friendly." The whole roster of walks is listed here.It may be too early for fireworks in your town, but those kaboom-happy folks in Wethersfield play by different rules. They'll be lighting 'em up fast and fierce at Cove Park Saturday night. A free shuttle service will be available from Pitkin Community Center to Solomon Welles House overlooking the cove from 5:00 to 10:30 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, June 8. Also included with your free admission will be live music and more food trucks, thank God.The article Fishing, Fireworks, Food Trucks, & Hair Metal: Summer In CT Starts Now appeared first on Across Connecticut, CT Patch.
