See Video: South Elmhurst Hit With Car Burglaries
ELMHURST, IL – Suspects burglarized and stole cars early Tuesday morning in south Elmhurst, police said. Thefts from unlocked cars were reported on Mitchell, Parkside, Swain, Bryan, Colfax, Poplar, Berkley, Madison, West and Sunnyside, police said in a news release. The suspects, who were in two cars, roamed neighborhoods between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., police said. The police department released footage in one case. The suspects worked quietly and did not break into any cars, stealing property and two cars in a driveway with key fobs left inside, police said.Police were called when residents awoke to find their cars rummaged through. Officers said they recovered one of the suspect cars and both of the victim's stolen cars, each abandoned in Chicago, police said. Police are asking residents for exterior video of suspicious people, a white sedan or a white SUV in south Elmhurst during the time in question. They are requested to email the footage to detectives."Please lock up your vehicles to make our town a place thieves come up empty-handed. Lock It or Lose It, Elmhurst!" police said in the news release. Here are the police department's tips for preventing theft: Lock up all parked cars, especially in driveways.Remove key fobs from all push-button-start cars and keys from vehicles.Park inside, if possible.Remove garage door openers and valuables from cars parked outside.Be aware, look outside before leaving your home during overnight and early morning hours.If you observe suspicious people in your neighborhood, call 911 immediately, but do not alert or confront them.The article See Video: South Elmhurst Hit With Car Burglaries appeared first on Elmhurst, IL Patch.
