‘I got chills’, say racing fans as NASCAR records closest finish in Cup Series history at Kansas Speedway
NASCAR produced its greatest-ever finish at Kansas Speedway on Sunday night.
After the start of the AdventHealth 400 was delayed by three hours, NASCAR fans were treated to some of the best racing of the year.

Kyle Larson put on a charge in the final two corners, storming around the outside of Chris Buescher towards the checkered flag.
When they got to the finish line, Larson beat Buescher by 0.001 seconds, the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history.
The finish was so tight that Buescher was initially named the winner before a review determined that Larson made it to the line first, giving him his second win of 2024.
The race looked like it would be settled by whoever had enough fuel to make it to the end, as Denny Hamlin led Martin Truex with seven laps to go.
However, a late spin by Kyle Bush brought out the yellow flag, giving the drivers time to pit for new tires and fuel.
Buescher got off the restart well, but a great tow saw Larson rocket towards the lead. Some extra-aggressive driving including some bumps to Buescher’s door helped secure the win.
“I got through [Turns] 1 and 2 really good, down the backstretch I had a big tow on Chris and got him to kind of enter shallow,” Larson told Fox Sports.
“I just committed really hard up top and wasn’t quite sure if we were gonna make it out the other side — I got super loose in the center.
“And then I’m trying not to get too far ahead of him to where he can side draft, and then I was just trying to kill his run. It was crazy.”
It was the second photo finish of the year, after Daniel Suarez beat out Ryan Blaney by .003 seconds at Atlanta.
Both times it was a Ford driver getting edged out by just fractions of a second.
“That sucks to be that close … I tried to cover what I could and gave him half a lane too much, I suppose,” Buescher told Fox Sports.
“A good, hard race right there down to the line. But that hurts.”
NASCAR fans couldn’t believe their eyes watching the photo finish and went wild on social media after the race ended.
