HYDE PARK, NY — There is a new place to turn for help for families in one Hudson Valley school community, and the opening is worth celebrating. From the Hyde Park Central School District. The Hyde Park Central School District will celebrate the grand opening of its new Family Resource Center, located at Hyde Park Elementary School, 4327 Albany Post Road, with a ribbon cutting and Touch-A-Bus event Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. The events will allow the community to see the center and learn about its offerings as well as explore the district’s newly purchased electric bus and learn more about its environmentally friendly features. It arrived in district Oct. 3. Dr. Pedro Roman, Superintendent of the Hyde Park Central School District, expressed his excitement about both events. "We are thrilled to officially open our new Family Resource Center and welcome our community to experience the arrival of our new electric bus," he said. "Thanks to the support of our Board of Education and the Hyde Park Central School District community, we are able to create these opportunities and actualize our vision and mission." No sign-up is required to attend and invitations will be mailed to community members. Fun activities and refreshments will be provided. The Family Resource Center will provide essential goods, clothing and support services for families in need. In addition, professional development nights for parents will cover topics such as parenting, mental health, bullying, college planning and other topics of interest. "We understand that many families may be facing financial, emotional, and or academic challenges," Community Schools Facilitator Melissa Rosario said. "We want to provide support, resources, and essential goods to assist them during this difficult time."Rosario noted that the concept of this center came about after administrators visited several similar centers in Peekskill and Poughkeepsie. They recognized the substantial impact a center like this could have in the district and Rosario said it aligns with the community school initiative which includes goals such as increasing access to services, improving family engagement and advocating for families. "I am committed to understanding the unique needs of our families and delivering tailored services, educational development, and resources," Rosario said.
