Letter to the Editor: The kindness of Manteo

To the Editor:
I’m from the Raleigh area and taking my first trip ever to OBX. It’s been a truly lovely vacation … except for the bad fall I had yesterday [June 20, 2024]. Landed on my elbow and likely fractured my lower arm.
Throughout the day, the people of Manteo came to my assistance. Strangers at The Wash House laundromat helped me measure my arm for an elbow brace. The ladies at Dare County Library provided the ruler and researched for me. And since I’m camping, Brian, the owner of TL’s Family Restaurant, allowed me to ship the elbow brace to his restaurant. Susanna, a waitress at TL’s Family Restaurant, gave me ice for the swelling and kept me in good spirits.
Thank you for your kindness, Manteo! I’m coming back next year!
