Fans of Mama June have been following Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon’s love life, from the end of her marriage to Josh Efird to her relationship with Darrin Kitchens. However, a recent scene on the show has gotten fans talking about Pumpkin and Josh’s relationship. In particular, one scene has some fans thinking Josh was led on.

Viewers have come to know the Shannon family through various reality series. These include Toddlers & Tiaras, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and, more recently, WEtv’s Mama June series, named after family matriarch June “Mama June” Shannon.
As fans know, Mama June’s daughter, Lauryn, also known by the nickname “Pumpkin,” and Josh Efird welcomed their daughter, Ella Grace, into the world in late 2017. The two tied the knot the following year.

Since then, the couple welcomed a son, Bentley, in 2021, and a pair of twins in 2022. After six years of marriage, Lauryn filed for divorce in August 2024.
However, a recent clip from Mama June has gotten fans talking about Josh and Pumpkin’s relationship since their separation. On the show, Josh and Lauryn could be seen waiting for Ella Grace to get ready for school. As they talked, Josh called Pumpkin “boo” while noting that the twins were with his mother.

In a confessional, Pumpkin shared, “Ever since me and Josh split up, he slips up and like calls me ‘boo’ or calls me ‘baby.’ And it’s like, I’m not that anymore.”
Josh himself appeared in another aside, where he admitted, “I can’t believe I let that fly out of the old mouth ’cause um calling each other pet names and things was a normality when we were together. So things are going to fly out by accident. You know, no harm, no foul.” While cutting back to the two waiting for Ella Grace, Josh explained that he planned on taking his daughter out to get breakfast before school.

However, on social media, some fans wondered what had happened behind the scenes. In particular, it seemed like Josh was hoping to reconcile with Pumpkin and a few were wondering what could have caused that.
On social media, one fan wrote, “It seems like Pumpkin led Josh on; that scene was really sad.. just false hope?” They continued, “I wonder what Pumpkin really said to make Josh think there was hope like, no divorce or something… something more than just taking Ella to school. He was totally heartbroken.”

The fan also highlighted a scene involving a phone call, in which Lauryn called up Josh, highlighting that the two were planning on taking Ella Grace to school together. Calling it “a heartbreaking scene,” the fan wondered if Josh’s hope came from “Pumpkin leading him on or just wishful thinking?”
Other fans shared their own reactions to the moment. A few fans noted that the drama concerning the divorce, as it finalizes, could be hyped up for the show.
Added to that, a few fans also brought up Pumpkin’s relationship with Darrin. Some comments included:
“I’m watching this season assuming the narrative around the divorce isn’t real. I haven’t followed everything that has come out on social media, but I don’t think that the divorce was so one-sided, surprising to him. The show has painted it that way. I don’t think he was walking around thinking there was a chance for reconciliation.”
