Residents, Neighbors Evacuated Due To Garage Fire In Garwood

GARWOOD, NJ — A garage fire prompted Garwood residents in the home and neighbors to be evacuated on Tuesday morning.At 7:33 a.m., Garwood Police received a 911 call from a resident stating they saw smoke coming from a garage on the 600 block of Willow Avenue, said Garwood Police Chief Jonathan J. Pridy.Officers arrived and confirmed there was an active fire in a detached garage. Officers evacuated the residents of the home as well as adjacent homes as a safety precaution, said Pridy.Garwood Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire without incident. Westfield Fire, Cranford Fire, Scotch Plains Fire, Roselle Fire and Union County EMS all provided mutual aid.Have a news tip?
